Route Description
The Završnica Valley (also called Zavrh by the locals for a short period) was formed by the Završnica Stream. The stream has its headwaters in the high mountains between the Begunjščica and Stol peaks, flows behind the Peč Mountain and empties into the Sava Dolinka Riverat the northern end of Dežela Plain. In the lower part, the Završnica Stream was dammed for the needs of a hydroelectric power plant, which created an artificial lake. The valley is relatively wide in its upper part, after which it narrows to widen again in the lower course. The largest part of the valley is overgrown with meadows and pastures, where cattle graze before being driven into the alpine pastures, which has been jointly owned for centuries.
The Završnica Valley with its accumulation lake is a popular starting point for hikers and cyclists. Nearby are well-known mountain lodges: “Valvasorjev dom”, “Prešerenova koča” on the top of the Stol Mountain (2236 m/7335 feet),”Planinski dom na Zelenici” and others. That is why the municipality of Žirovnica, with the help of European funds, arranged a relatively large parking lot for cars and buses, widened the road and arranged the Završnica Recreational Park.
