Black Lake- Bistriško Pohorje

Route Description

A lovely easy path leads the whole family to the Black Lake in the Bistriško Pohorje hills. The trail across wooden footbridges, from the direction of “Dom Na Osankarici Hut”, is a most interesting hiking adventure for children.

The Black Lake is black indeed! Its water is actually crystal clear, but organic waste of plants and animals gathers at the bottom and creates a thick layer of silt which gives the lake its typical black colour (Source: Slotrips website). 

It is situated in a marshy area in the middle of Pohorje woods and presents a nice spot for a short trip; a lovely path across wooden footbridges leads to it from the direction of “Dom Na Osankarici” Hut. The area around the lake is protected as a natural reserve (Source: Slotrips website). The trip is suitable for children of all ages, however, the youngest ones (under 3 years of age) need a little help. The wooden footbridge has actually proven to be a most entertaining hiking distraction and it motivated our kids to move further without any struggle. The terrain is not suitable for a stroller; however, one can carry a baby in a baby carrier since the easy trail does not go uphill.

Parents, I guarantee you will not be able to keep your hands off your camera and make hundreds of photos of your photogenic children ;).
