Route Description
The path around the Črnava Lake is short and suitable for small children. The other longer circular route leads through the surrounding villages and is great for avid athletes. You can find the GPX map of the route below.
The trail starts with a little climb but it flattens later on and is therefore suitable for families with baby strollers. Enjoy the cool shade and the murmur of the nearby river. Start your hike at the front of the hotel; continue towards the St. Jacob Hill and at a large tree and chapel turn left on the macadam. Continue through the forest, towards the Nova vas Village, where you descend back in the direction of the hotel. This location is great walking your dog, since there are hardly any other people here. At the end of the route, it feels good to have a coffee in the Alma Hotel Restaurant by the Črnava Lake.
Interesting Facts
The Črnava Lake is a small accumulation lake located at the foot of the Storžič Mountain. It was formed when the Bistrica Stream was dammed. The lake is quite shallow and the water is fresh. It is surrounded by a nice walking path, which partly merges with the Small Forest Learning Trail. There is a tree-lined avenue for newlyweds by the lake and an old tradition says that a just-married couple will be forever faithful to each other by walking through it. In the parking lot next to the hotel, you can also see mighty redwoods, which were probably planted here in the middle of the 19th century.

Once upon a time, there lived two farmer brothers down in the valley who were having an angry dispute over the ownership of a nearby forest. They quarreled and sued each other in court. The older brother got very angry one day and said, "If the forest can’t be mine, let the devil take it." That night a storm raged with lightning and thunder.
