Route Description
Don't upset the Bled Goldhorn Theme trail around Lake Bled.
Welcome! You are at the beginning of a theme trail consisting of six stops around Lake Bled, where you will discover how important it is to preserve our environment for future wellbeing.
You will have the chance to get familiar with the charming beauties of Bled, its cultural and natural attractions and to relive the memory of one of the most well-known stories in a fun and unique way. The town of Bled is best known for its lake and the church island whose extraordinary beauty takes your breath away. A rocky cliff with a medieval castle rises 120 m (393 feet) high over the lakeshore. The earliest evidence for humans in this area is from the Stone Age.
Today, the town of Bled is a well-kept resort with many hotels, private accommodation, a campsite and a varied Slovene and foreign cuisine (the delicious cream cakes (“kremšnita”) especially). It is also famous as a rowing-regatta center and as a starting point for many trips and walks in beautiful surroundings such as the Vintgar Gorge, the Pokljuka Gorge, the Iglica Waterfall (Slap pod Iglico), the mountains around the lake, plateaus and the Triglav National Park. There is a circular promenade around the lake, which has a beautiful view of the surroundings and it takes only an hour and a half to walk the whole length. You can even rent a horse-drawn carriage at the Bled Festival Hall. The island of Bled is accessible with a typical pletna boat, which carries about 20 passengers. The boat is propelled using the special “stehrudder” technique where the oarsman is standing and rowing with two oars. In the church on the island, there is a famous wish bell, which dates back to 1543 and if you ring it, every wish will come true.
Interesting Facts
Would you like to see the island up close? You can take a pletna boat or rent your own boat and leave the rowing to your parents. In summer, do not forget to bring your swimsuit, as the lake is pleasantly refreshing, and in very cold winters, it is possible to ice-skate on the surface (at your own risk, of course).

And...
The walk around the lake or skiing definitely takes up a lot of your energy. One way to restore it is to visit the Park Hotel Restaurant (which is just a few steps away from the Bled Promenade), where you can get the most delicious Bled cream cakes.
Did you know?
The original Bled cream cake is recognised as a dish with a designation of origin. Since the very first cream cake in 1953, over 15 million original Bled cream cakes have been made to this day, using over 131 tons of flour, 8,437 million eggs and 1,556,000 litres of milk. If the 15 million cream cakes were stacked in a row, they would reach 1,050 km (652 miles) or all the way from Bled to Naples. If we were to stack them on top of one another around Lake Bled, they would make a wall 8 m high. On beautiful spring and autumn weekends, they bake between 2,500 and 3,500 pieces. Confectioners still remember the records from the late 70s, when they baked up to 6,000 slices of cream cake in a single weekend!
