Take advantage of a pleasant weekend for a family hike to the Sveti Jakob above Katarina Hill. If your family is in good shape, do tackle this 806-metre (2644-feet) hill, which is one of the most popular hiking spots. The trail is easy enough; however, with dogs, we recommend setting off earlier in the morning and avoid the crowds. The ascent is easy and suitable for all kinds of hikers.
Your starting point is the village of Topol pri Medvodah (there are other possible ones as well). The trail is a bit steeper at the beginning and then gradually starts sloping. Children aged 4 and above can walk by themselves. Moms and dads with enough stamina can of course carry toddlers and babies in baby carriers. Our GPX map shows the most suitable hiking trail for children, but it is possible to take a different road with a baby stroller.
On clear days, the top with the St. Jacob Church, built in the 16th century, offers a wonderful view of the Sora plain, the Ljubljana Basin, the Karawanks, the Julian Alps with Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia, the Polhov Gradec Dolomites and the hills of the Central Sava and Central Slovenia regions. This is a truly wonderful family trip!
Your starting point is the village of Topol pri Medvodah. Did you know that...
… the official name of this village used to be Katarina nad Medvodami (after the parish St. Catharine Church). In 1955, they renamed it into Topol, but the locals still heavily use the old name.
This is an old inn, which uses fresh ingredients from the adjacent farm to prepare delicious dishes. The menu has something scrumptious for the whole family.

There is no mountain lodge at the top of the hill unfortunately, so a go-to snack is a must.
