Route Description
The Technical Museum of Slovenia in the town of Bistra is one of the best locations for a trip in bad weather. Both parents and children will have fun here! If the rain stops in the meantime, feel free to check out the beautiful surroundings!
In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the Technical Museum of Slovenia also has some temporary ones. We were lucky to see two of them with our kids: the Man on the Moon and the Jugoton. The first one was all the rave with my son and the second one answered my partner’s burning questions about the past :).
The museum is closed in January and February; you can visit it normally all other months. The Technical Museum is housed in a former Carthusian monastery and has more than 6,000 m2 of exhibition space.
Permanent collections include printing, agriculture, textiles, electricity, fishing, hunting, forestry, water power and road transport. You can admire Tito's protocol limousines in the vehicle collections. The economy exhibition will take you on a tour of milling and blacksmithing in Slovenia, and the genius Nikola Tesla will impress you with electricity. The children get an adventure of their own: they can sit in old school benches with a teddy bear in their hands as well as solve puzzles with the help of interactive applications. The museum also wants to establish a permanent exhibition dedicated to Slovene aviation (particularly the era featuring Stane Bloudek and Edvard Rusjan). You can also buy a model or a fun T-shirt in the museum shop as a souvenir.

The food is tasty and locally grown. The ambience is great for children who can play outside in nice weather. The service was quick and we really enjoyed the main course. Of course, we did not forget to order the Vrhnika štruklji!

The museum is huge and our little brains needed a quick break. We took a walk around the lake and filled our tummies with goodies from Mommy’s backpack. A quick stop and a dose of sugar was all we needed to continue our adventure.
