Route Description

Hop on the Urban electric train and drive a lap around Ljubljana. If you want to see this city as a tourist, explore the capital with the help of this interesting means of transport. You should not miss this exciting city tour. The circular route has 10 stations and includes the city’s biggest attractions. Make exploring the capital educational and fun for your kids. Adults see the capital of Slovenia differently: we go to Ljubljana for shopping; we go to Ljubljana to college, to party on weekends, etc. With the kids, you can see our capital in a completely different light. Why not visit Ljubljana as a tourist and let yourself be driven around the city?

The electric tourist train Urban starts the circular route near the City Hall, visits Ljubljana Castle, takes you along the pleasant embankments of the Ljubljanica River and returns to the starting point via Trnovski pristan embankment, through the center of modern Ljubljana, past the Opera, the Modern Gallery and Prešeren Square with the Triple Bridge.

You can board the train at different locations and see the city from all possible angles. Visit the Modern Gallery, the Ljubljana Castle and other sights. Alternatively, you can simply sit in the sun by the Ljubljanica River having a drink or lunch and then step back on the train. You can just stay on the ride for the entirety of the circular trip and learn much about the city of Ljubljana. Customize your day to the likings of your family.

This trip was a first for us and we did not expect to find out so many new things about a city we have seen a hundred times. Even the kids were excited to learn something new about our capital!

Interesting Facts

Do you know the Legend of the Foundation of Ljubljana?

Legend has it that Ljubljana was founded by Jason, the hero of Greek mythology who stole the Golden Fleece from King Aeëtes and then fled aboard the Argo with his comrades, known as the Argonauts, across the Black Sea and up the Danube and the Sava River until they reached the Ljubljanica River. On their way to the coast, they stopped at a large lake in the marshes near the source of the Ljubljanica, where a dragon was said to dwell, whereupon Jason fought, defeated and killed the mighty worm. This is the same dragon that is featured on the Ljubljana City coat of arms and on the Dragon Bridge.
