Route Description

New York has Central Park, Ljubljana has Tivoli Park and Celje has its City Forest.

It extends along the southern border of the town, from the foothills to the slopes of Anski vrh and Miklavški hrib. Spanning 94 hectares of forest areas and including 14 kilometres (8.12 miles) of 12 maintained walking trails, it is the largest maintained public green area in Celje.

Specific microclimate and the tranquillity found in the Celje City Forest are not only an excellent setting for walks or exercise, but also a natural mood and spirit booster.

This fairytale tree fulfills all childhood dreams among tree canopies. In 2015, the Municipality of Celje transformed the little bird observatory into an open system boasting new recreational, educational and experiential equipment.

It is open to all visitors of the urban forest. During the opening hours, the entry is free of charge. A view outside opening hours is possible by prior arrangement and payment in Tourist information centre Celje.

The construction, which is 59 square meters big (including its terraces), is fastened between six trees at a height of between 6 and 9.5 meters (19.8 – 31.2 feet) above the ground. The view extends to the "forest mother", as the people of Celje call the oldest beech tree in the forest. Flora and fauna are observed from this unique forest laboratory in all its glory. The geometry of the building, with six branches and median platforms, represents the “the flower of Perun” which used to be a symbol of house protection long ago.

Let your kids enjoy the fresh forest air and use up some of their energy on the playground.

Make your trip last longer and hike up to the Old Castle. You might meet a dragon up there :).
